A good line
“The sneakers got the location pin after everyone else.” It is specific, surreal, and entirely about the footwear.
A safer roast guide
A good outfit roast is closer to playful fashion commentary than a put-down. It notices a clothing choice, exaggerates it with a harmless image, and leaves the wearer's body, identity, and worth completely alone.
The four-step filter
Start with something in the outfit: the color pairing, oversized layer, shoe choice, print, or accessory.
Compare the styling choice to a harmless scene, object, meeting, playlist, or side quest instead of judging the wearer.
Roast only when the person is in on the joke. If the room changes, change the subject or stop.
Do not joke about bodies, race, religion, disability, gender, sexuality, identity, attractiveness, or personal value.
Before you send
“The sneakers got the location pin after everyone else.” It is specific, surreal, and entirely about the footwear.
Anything that comments on a person's body, identity, status, attractiveness, or value. That is not an outfit roast.
Roast guide FAQ
Focus on styling choices that are visible and changeable: colors, layers, proportions, prints, shoes, accessories, or a mismatch between pieces.
It can be okay when your friend has clearly opted into the joke. Keep the line light, outfit-focused, and easy to decline or move past.
